International Adoption Programs
The Adoption Process
The first step in beginning your international adoption journey is to choose a home study agency that is located in your state. This agency will provide a “study” of your family and help you to work through any questions or concerns that you have about your adoption. They will also help you submit the necessary paperwork to USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services), in order to receive approval to bring a child into the United States.
You will also work very closely with your child placement agency. This is the agency that specializes in the particular country from which you wish to adopt. They will assist you in compiling the necessary paperwork according to the specific requirements of the foreign country. They will also help to match you with a child. Your child placement agency can be located anywhere in the U.S.
Once you are approved by USCIS, as well as the country where your have chosen to adopt, you are then eligible to be matched with a child! After being matched, you will travel to meet your child and go through the in-country adoption process with a local court. After adopting your child in-country, you will apply for a visa for your child at the US Embassy there. Upon receipt of your child’s visa, you may travel home!
