Countries

Choosing a country from which to adopt can be an overwhelming process for potential adoptive parents. There are a variety of factors that might be taken into consideration, some of them emotional, some financial and some logistical.

Partners for Adoption recommends that potential adoptive parents start their selection process by looking at the age range and gender of the child that they wish to adopt. The wider the range of these two factors, the more options the family will have in international adoption.

Once a family has settled on age and gender (or has come to the conclusion that age and gender are quite flexible) we suggest that the family starts exploring country programs that have children available who fit their criteria.

Cost and Timing Considerations:

Next, there are considerations such as cost and timing to take into account. Certain countries are more expensive due to logistics issues, such as two trips to the country vs. one trip to the country, and some countries will require that the family remain in country for up to three weeks, which other require only a short trip to pick up the child.

Personal/Ancestral Ties:

Finally, some prospective parents feel as though they have a connection with a particular country, whether through family ancestry, business ties, or personal interest.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like assistance figuring out which country might be right for you. We would be happy to help you sort through some of these issues and work with you to find your child and bring him or her home.
